Final Project

Hi my name is Olivia Taylor. I've always known a little bit about my family history, but I have been very interested to learn more about it. This project not only helped me learn more about my some of my ancestors, but it helped me learn more about facts and different cultures we celebrate in our family. I began with a 25 question interview for both my mother and father. I asked them questions like where they grew up or how far they can trace their family back. I then sent a persuasive email to a family member asking if they could help me find out more information about our family and maybe provide pictures. Then I used family echo to help me organize all my family members in family tree. After I made my family echo, I used prezi to help me make a more fun, informative family tree. This prezi includes more information about family members and pictures. After using prezi, I moved onto creating an infographic. This infographic provides facts, charts, and just more in-depth information about my family.

I thought the video was very interesting. I agree with most of the things he's saying but it would be very hard for people to just stop using technology. We have been used to technology our whole lives and it's apart of the social norm. I think technology consumes us and takes up a lot of our time, so I do think here and there we should put it down and focus on the more important things in life. I liked the example he used of the couple meeting each other and starting a family, then he showed that if the guy had been on his phone he would have missed out on that opportunity. It showed that being on technology can you make you miss some of the most important things in life, which I definitely agree with.

What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I think everything that the teacher is saying is true. Students give up way to easily when they run into adversity, and that's setting us up for failure in the future. We need to stop taking the easy way out of things and challenge ourselves because it's not doing us any good. If we take the easy way out of things, we are not learning a real lesson. It's almost like were quitting because we don't want to work hard. The main event is learning how to deal with the problems in your life, because if you don't, you won't be able to enjoy life like you need to.

Reflect on your stop-motion animation project. How did it go? What worked? What didn't work? If you're not finished - why? If you are finished go in to detail about the project and what you learned. Give as much detail and information as possible.

My stop-motion animation project went really well. At first I didn't think my pictures would turn out well but once I put it in movie maker it turned out very well. Everything turned out well, some pictures came out blurry. I almost finished all I have to do is add credits and music.

One of my idea's for stop-motion animation is to show my day at the mall with my friends. Its going to show all the stores that I walk into and the different shirts and stuff that I look at and try on. It's going to show me walking around the mall and sitting down and eating. I plan on taking my pictures on Saturday and Sunday.

An animation technique that makes an illusion of an object moving. It uses photo increments of an object to create an illusion of the object moving. Stop motion animations can include figures, models, or humans.

Tell me about your 5 frame storyboard. What did you like about the project? What did you dislike? Was it hard to fit a story in to 5 images? Do you think you tell a clear story? What would you do differently if you could? Explain.

I liked that it was simple and that I didn't have to add any words to it.  I really didn't dislike anything about it. It was kind of hard but I feel that my story is very clear. If I could do something differently I would travel to more places for my story.

Yes we got our pictures taken yesterday and I enjoyed walking around the school for a photo scavenger hunt. I think you had us take those type of pictures for us to learn how to take pictures from different angles.

I don't really know much about photography; I usually take pictures with my camera phone.  I own a digital camera but I only use it for vacation photos.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

My Spring Break was wonderful!! I had the best time of my life. Me and a couple of friends went on a cruise to the Bahamas and Grand Turk. We had to drive to Springfield, Missouri and then fly to Puntagorda, Florida. That next morning we drove to Miami to board the cruise. We made so many new friends and met so many new people it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I would rather create an infographic because I feel it like it would display my information better more than a 3 paged paper would do.

I am about 30% of the way through on my infograhic. I'm still posting facts and statistics about my global issue. I will not be ready to embed my infographic on to my blog by the end of the hour. I have kind of used my time wisely. I can get easily distracted sometimes but when I sit down and focus I'll be okay.

An infographic is a visual aid for information. You able to put facts, statistics, timelines, pictures, etc. to portray your information. The benefits of an infographic is to make your information pop out more and make it easier to understand.

My paper is about the death penalty and how it should abolished. It talks about the causes of the death penalty and what all takes place when the court decides whether or not to assign someone the death penalty. It also takes about the effects of the death penalty and how it effects society and prevention's of the death penalty.

I am 2 paragraphs in on my 5 paragraph essay. It is a little difficult to write because I feel that my topic is still kind of broad but my outline is making it more helpful to me write.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

I kind of had an interesting weekend. On Friday, my friend and I tried to put some highlights in my hair but it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to. The dye was old I think because my other friend gave it to me a while back so the dye turned my hair gray. So now I have gray highlights but my friend and I are fixing it after school. On Saturday, I just went out to the Cheesecake Factory with my friends and then studied for the ACT.

The global issue that I selected was capital punishment. I chose this because it seems interesting and a lot of people do not agree on it or think it shouldn't be used.  I also hope to learn more about the court system.

 A public service announcement is an ad that raises awareness or gives relevance to an important topic or issue. They are used to show the public an issue that needs to be solved. I have seen PSA's about PETA or sad animal commercials that try to raise money to help animals that are in need.

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

During my three day weekend I went to my best friend Katie's lake house for her birthday. We always go there for her birthday and during the summer so it's something we always get excited for. Since it was a beautiful weekend with perfect weather we were outside the whole entire time. We ate a lot of food and told a lot of stories. It was one of the best times of my life with my best friends and it was awesome!

What have you learned about Google Drive and Google Presentation so far? What do you like about it? What problems have you run in to? Is it better than PowerPoint? Explain.

I have learned a lot about Google Presentation. It is like a regular PowerPoint Presentation except with more things to do. I like it because I am able to make a regular presentation my very own by adding different things to it. I haven't really run into any problems yet and I do think it is better than PowerPoint. 

 "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."


I do not agree that images on the internet are 'free game'. You should not be allowed to use someone else's work unless you cite it. Just because they posted it and it's available doesn't mean that you should use it without giving credit.

I want to learn how to get more familiar with computers and technology. I want to be able to understand different technologies and use them efficiently so I can apply them in my work once I get to college. I hope to learn new things that benefit my learning.
